Research into characterisation.

Above is a  video portraying  how my group and I attempted  to capture the appropriate characterisation  so that the actresses performance in our music video is realistic.

     Niamh
Protagonist

What we are trying to achieve:

  • An emotional convincing  performance.
  • We want the audience to understand the character.
  • We want to successful portray the character that Ed Sheeran has portrayed through his lyrics which is a struggling young woman looking fro hope amongst the dark.
From the research above the protagonist is dressing scruffy and is homeless and come across as very depressed and down trodden. The audience can sympathise with the character as she seems hopeless and lost.

In the escort scenes the protagonist comes across as confident  but as she is applying make-up we can see that  she is genuine and she is trying to in a sense disconnect herself  from her horrible circumstances.

From the research above the protagonist comes across as downtrodden and depressed as if she is struggling to cope with life she is also wearing scruffy grubby clothing which reflects that  she is homeless and has few options in life.

How we are going to portray our character:
  • As someone that is  depressed.
  • As someone that feels hopeless.
  • As someone that feels like they have demeaned themselves.
  • As someone that feels like life's betrayed them so they feel like they have nothing to live for.
  • As a really troubled person that has made poor life decisions.
  • As someone that is crying out for help.
Below are some photos that are snapshots of  our actress in costume while filming capturing  the  physically of the chac  while also capturing the essence of the character.
