Q4)Evaluation question-How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

Relating to CD cover to research.

Above is a digaram that describes the relationship between our final products and our research.

Relating poster to research.

Above is a diagram that relates our Final magazine design with our  research.

How we made the magazine poster.

We had already ediited the photogrpah on Adobe Photoshop so this gave us a head start  since we used the same photograph  for the CD cover.

Firstly we adjusted and edited the phtograph on Adobe Photshop and expaned the size of the phtograph so that it would be suitabel for the poster.
We then impotrted the phtograph into Adbobe Indesign  gradually started to add text to the picture by selecting which font we wanted and choosing which colour would be suitable according to our research.
We copied and paste the Cd front cover from a speprate document  and added a red outline around it so that it would relaet to our colour scheme. After placing the picture of the front cover of the CD case onto the poster, we decided as a group that this would be our final poster. However after receiving negative feedback, we decided to edit the poster further.

We therefore decided to add more infoamtion ontot our poster in order to make the porodcut look more professional and realistic  by selecting the fonts and colours needed as before.
Final poster below.

Filming problems and experimentation.

Bedroom scene experimentation of creating a silhouette.
Here is a shot that we filmed within the second shoot, where we attempted to create a shot where you could only see the outline of the actress body as we thought it looked quite effective. We did this by controlling the lighting (Turning off the main light, using a side lamp and a torch).

This picture shows Janet shining her phone to the wall in order to, control the light so that we could control the size of Niamh's shadow.

Here is an attempt to shoot me walking from the toilet to the bedroom, however whilst filming we encountered a problem as we realised that you could see objects within the frame that ruined the shot, and so to overcome this, we had to move all of the unnecessary objects of out the way.
Removing objects that were interfering with the shot.

Suicide scene mirror shot(omitted from the final cut)
We made an attempt to put a mirror inside the bath whilst running water to create a unique shot. This is our attempt of it, however we were  unable to use it as the mirror was too small so we couldn't  capture the reflection we wanted and when we tried it didn't  look convincing.

Drug scene(omitted from the final cut)

In our music video, the actress collects drugs from a drug dealer, and so we thought it may be necessary to add a scene where the actress takes the drugs. However, when attempting to film it, we felt that it didn't look realistic as  we used sugar,  therefore we didn't add it to our music video as it looked silly and this was intended to be an intense scene.

Music channel broadcaster.

Research shows that music videos are shown on music video channels in order to prommote the artists current song..If my group and I were to promote our music video wwe would chose to do so on Mtv. This sis beacsue MTV broadcast their music channels internationally, and thsi broadacaster are aimed at younfgpeople which would appeal to our target auidenc of people in the late teens and early tweenties. Therefore, our music video would we promoted on a worldwide scale. It also generates types of music channels to fit the genre of music:MTV hits, MTV rocks and MTV dance.MTV rocks would be the most appropiate channel to ptomote out mucis vodep beacuse Ed Sheeran's Ateam is an alternative Indide rock song.

Research into lighting.

Citizen Kane inspiration shot.
Our shot.

This shot is from the film 'Citizen Kane' which I found and was attracted to, and so my group and I decided to use the idea of light shining in from the background to create an image of the actress' body being almost blacked out, leaving the outline of their body contrasting sharply against the harsh light in the background. The lighting is symbolic of the character being living a depressing and miserable life.

Icopnography.

When making our products we wanted to use an iconographic image in order to synergise our products together  Below are some examples according to our research that has inspired us to feature inconography as an important element in our products that would easily prommote them as being recognisable to the auidience.

Iconography used in our own product:

Hand drawings(inside cover).

Below are diagrams that show how our design ideas for the inside covers relate to our research.

Hand drawings(Inside cover).

The diagram below demonstrates  how the inside of our digi-pack relates to research and shows how we were inspired to use a photograph of the singer inside the cover.

Relating CD design to research.

Below is a brief descriptive design diagram  that explains how our CD design typically relates to the conventions of exiting professional products.

CD research.

As a group we have decided that we want our CD design to be fairly simple so that we can associate  it with the simple design of our ancillary tasks  Below are black and white CD covers that relate to our planned colour scheme. The CD covers contain the singers name, which enables it to link to the remaining  of  the digi pack that will contain the singer's name, the copyright law and the record label icon which makes the product legal.

Hand drawings(Cd back cover).

In order for our product to look professional we ahve clsoely paid attenton to the cobetiions of Cd back covers that ahve a lakc and white abnd dark colour schmee so that we remain with conetuion and iclude all the nessay inofrmation on it.

Research into transitions.

Different types of transitions used within music videos
Transitions are effects used to bring two clips together by creating an effect which is not a sharp as a 'cut' where the shot changes from shot to shot without them being blended together. Transitions are also a good way of showing that you are able to use a range of effects whilst editing.

Here are some explanations of what each transition is:

Dissolve is a gradual transition from one shot to another. The clip overlaps two shots for the duration of the effect, the effect being the shot dissolving into the other. This would be effective for our music video as we would be able to use it when the actress is committing suicide,  grtadually showing merge matched cut cut of the character drowing.
A example of this transition is featured below:

wipe is when one shot is replaced by another by being moved across and out of the screen. A wipe can also be used as the shot moving horizontally or vertically out of the screen. This transiton would be inappropiate and childdish for our msuic video as it would look to abrupt and look like a powerpoint ptresnstation and is not a convention that is used when making music videos.
An example is featured below:

fade is when one shot slowly fades out and into another shot, turning black for a brief second between the two shots. This would be a good transition to use within our music video as it would be appropiate to use after the character commits suicide releasing tension.
An example is featured below:

cut  is the most common used transition within videos, its an instant change from one shot to the next. This would be a good shot to use within our music video as it wouldn't distract our audience away from the emotion conveyed from the close shots of our actress crying.

A morph is a shot of something gradually entering the frame whilst the other object within the frame is gradually fading away. This would be good to use within our music video when the actress is holgin the necklace  as we can show her holdign it  and then gradually fade away.
An example is feautured below:

How I made the Cd front cover.

Firstly, we  edited the photograph chosen using Adobe Photoshop. We used a clone stamp tool to colour my nails to make it look more professional as I had chipped nail varnish
Whilst using this tool we had to change the mass diameter of the tool to make it easier to edit in certain areas, and also the hardness of the tool in order for the final outcome to appear blended and smooth.

We then went on to use a healing  tool to take away dark circles from my eyes, and in order to make Niamh's face and neck appear smoother and more even.

After having experimented with various fonts, we decided to use a simple  font as we decided it looked most suitable for our CD cover. We also decided to place it in the right hand corner as we felt it looked weird being placed anywhere else.

Final front cover.

How I made the CD.

Firstly we copied the text 'Niamh' from the front of our CD case, to reinforce continuity throughout our products.

We then decided it would be more appropriate to use a grey background as it would correlate more to the colour of the pictures that we have used, as well as the music video. Lastly, from research, many conventions used on real media products show that a record label icon, the singer's name and the copyright law needed to be included on it so taht it looke professional and real.

How we made the CD back cover.

Firstly we clicked on 'type' then 'font' and then selected the font we used for the front of our CD case which was called 'Eras light' when using Adobe Indesign.
After placing all the text onto the picture, this was the outcome. We decided to put the number in red font as continuity from the front cover of our CD case as well as the rest of the text as white synergsising the products together due to the red and white colour scheme.
Then, by using a line tool we added side lines onto each side of the picture for the sides of the CD digi-pack.
We then decided to add a bar code to our picture to make it look more professional and so we imported it onto the picture and decreased the size of it, placing it in the bottom left hand corner.

This is the final edit

Here is an attempt of us drawing out a signature to add to the picture, however once made we felt that the signature was not appropriate and looked very messy and unprofessional.

Music video mind map.

Below is a mind map that discusses our ideas and plans regarding our music video as a group.

Draft Cd cover

Draft design.

After receiving feedback we were told that including the singer's name and the the album title separately made the CD front cover look cluttered we then decided to incorporate  them and the'A' represented a team and looked more stylish. This version  as also not square like a real square CD cover some other adjustments had to be made.

Final Design.

How we

Making the Draft design idea:

Below are some examples of how the different ways we experimented with our CD design and shows you how we reached our final outcome.

Draft versions of CD cover Back.

Draft version.

This is the draft version of our CD back cover after receiving  feedback we were told that the chin looked we so we re-edited the photograph in order to even up the skin and improve the organic structure of the chin.We also were told  that the song titles looked odd being positioned in the corner of the singer's hair and were told to bring the song titles downward so that it would look like the song titles were gradually blending  in to the shaded areas lower down the singer's face.
